Évora and the Alentejo

A full day in Évora, a walled city with a Roman temple, a Gothic cathedral and the Chapel of Bones, plus a stone circle older than Stonehenge.

  • About 9 hours
  • Up to 4 people
  • Private
  • €40 per hour, per vehicle + VAT

Évora is the heart of the Alentejo: a walled city of whitewashed houses and narrow streets, where Roman, medieval and Renaissance Portugal sit side by side. Its historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On this private day trip we head east across the Tagus and the open plains to Évora, stopping on the way at the Almendres Cromlech, a circle of standing stones thousands of years old. In the city you visit the Roman Temple, the Cathedral and the unforgettable Chapel of Bones, with time for lunch in Praça do Giraldo. A full day with a driver and guide, at your pace, that you can shape to suit you.

Good to know

Is Évora worth a full day from Lisbon?

Yes. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and compact enough to explore on foot, so the day is spent visiting, not driving around. The drive itself crosses the open plains of the Alentejo.

Can we add a wine tasting?

Yes. The Alentejo is one of Portugal's best-known wine regions, and we can include a winery visit on the way. Tell us when you book.
